JOB PURPOSE: The Building Attendant performs routine and non-routine duties related to the housekeeping operations at the College.
This position participates in the set-up and breakdown for special events, moves furniture, and maintains facilities in clean, orderly, and safe conditions.
The Building Attendant also performs a variety of cleaning tasks requiring physical fitness, safe working methods, and knowledge of cleaning chemicals, supplies, tools and equipment and how they are safely and effectively used in practice.
The Building Attendant assigned to Inventory and Supplies responsibilities ensures that all cleaning materials are picked up, sanitized and delivered to buildings around the campus.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Reporting directly to the Area Manager Building Attendant (Evening, Residential, or Academic), the Building Attendant performs the following essential duties and responsibilities: Clean offices, classrooms, science facilities, lecture halls, athletic facilities, rest rooms, and residential quarters.
Perform periodic and annual cleaning services/duties for executive suites and offices.
Clean toilets, urinals, windows, light fixtures, and furnishings.
Sweep and vacuum.
Dust and polish a variety of surfaces and wash walls.
Clean and disinfect a variety of surfaces.
Clean writing surfaces and erasers in classrooms.
Scrub and refinish floors and/or carpets.
Refinish hard, resilient and wood floors with mechanical floor cleaners, polishers, and carpet cleaning equipment.
Dispose of trash and other debris.
Remove graffiti.
Set-up and break-down furniture for meetings and special events.
Move furniture (e.
g.
, desks, desk chairs, mattresses, and other large items) per request by students and staff.
Service dispensing machines periodically.
Secure facilities and activate, deactivate electronic alarm systems.
Maintain a well-stocked and organized supply closets and carts and request cleaning supplies and materials when necessary.
Participate in the implementation of the College’s Emergency Management Plan and training related to Facilities & Campus Services.
Respond to emergency requests when requested, (e.
g.
, turn off water and gas and other appropriate actions).
The Building Attendant assigned to Inventory and Supplies duty performs the above functions as required in addition to the functions below: Order supplies and track inventory for the campus on items required (chemical, paper, specialized equipment).
Maintain campus laundry by ensuring pick up of wash rags, wedge mops, dust mops, finish mops.
Deliver supplies to buildings and student dorms and ensure each building is fully stocked (toilet paper, paper towels).
Collect scrubbing pads for proper sanitation.
Coordinate special projects/tasks and provide assistance as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to High School Diploma or GED or any equivalent combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and ability.
Licenses/Certificates: A valid driver’s license is required or equivalent means of reliable transportation to off-site meetings and events.
Experience: A minimum of 1 year of paid employment experience doing custodial or building maintenance assignments is required.
Experience at an academic institution is preferred.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND CRITICAL SKILLS: The Building Attendant must possess the knowledge, skills and abilities to be able to successfully perform the essential functions of the position or be able to demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed, with or without reasonable accommodation, using other skills and abilities not listed below.
Deploy professional skills in custodial or building maintenance, in collaboration with colleagues to best promote the College’s strategic interests.
Must satisfactorily complete a post-offer functional capacity test.
Able to understand and carry out oral and written directions in the English language.
Effectively and efficiently maintain an assigned area within a predetermined time schedule.
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
Repair tools or complete a request form for repairs in a timely manner when necessary.
Knowledge of safe working methods and procedures in custodial or building maintenance, including The safe use of cleaning chemicals and supplies.
The safe use, operation and repair of various cleaning tools and equipment.
Knowledge of safe working principles and practices in a college environment.
Able to stand, walk, bend, climb, push, pull, stoop, twist, stretch, lift up to 50 pounds from ground to waist level without assistance, and climb ladders up to 6 feet with assistance.
Able to work or stand for prolonged periods of time.
Using/wearing uniforms and safety equipment provided by the College.
Using or learning how to properly use fire extinguishers.
Safely operating and driving electric carts on campus.
The proper use of handheld radio for immediate communication with other staff as needed.
Demonstrated effectiveness and clarity of verbal and written communication with excellent interpersonal communication and phone manners.
Must work with people from a wide variety of backgrounds.
Able to handle multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work both independently and as a collaborative member of the College in support of the College’s strategic vision and the division’s annual goals with a high standard of integrity and ethics.
Must have exceptional organizational and time management skills to complete work with accuracy and attention to detail.
REQUIRED HOURS: The regular hours for this full time position are 3:30pm to 12:00am; days as assigned.
Overtime, holiday, weekend and evening work hours will be required.
Regular hours may vary due to needs of the College or division.
HOURLY RATE: The hourly rate for this role is between $20.
