Restored Thorens TD125 mk1 turntable with beautiful custom-made Bocote hardwood plinth, SME M2-9 tonearm, and other extras (including NOS spare parts!) as outlined below.
This turntable was my main vinyl rig for several years and was painstakingly restored by me, in consultation with Dave at Vinyl Nirvana, including the following:
* Speed control electronics rebuilt with new capacitors, new potentiometers, and recalibrated on all three speeds
* Bearing polished and new thrust plate installed
* New reproduction replacement springs from Vinyl Nirvana and foam inserts from Audiosilente in Italy
* New machined delrin threaded spring cups from Audiosilente for suspension adjustment - a major improvement over the originals (the original plastic adjuster cups are notorious for stripping out and seizing up, preventing adjustment)
* Installed SME M2-9 arm purchased new from Vinyl Nirvana, an authorized SME dealer at the time (SME for the last several years ceased sales of standalone tonearms, and just recently started selling the M2-9 again at a whopping $3400 per arm)
* Acrylic armboard from Vinyl Nirvana for minimum resonance
* Custom plinth made to my spec specifically for this turntable from solid Bocote wood
In addition to the turntable, the following extras are included in the sale:
* Spare OEM SME M2 magnesium headshell & box
* SME M2-9 arm original box/packaging and all documentation (owners manual, alignment template, mounting template, warranty card)
* NOS motor assembly, imported from Switzerland
* NOS bearing well assembly, also imported from Switzerland
* Audio-Technica AT-605 isolation+leveling feet with AT machined aluminum bubble level
* Original TD-125 instruction manual
* Original TD-125 sales brochure
* Bren1 machined aluminum record weight purchased from Vinyl Nirvana
At my asking price, I will also include the low-mileage Audio-Technica AT440MLa cartridge currently mounted and shown in the photos, with its original box.
This turntable served me well for several years, and handily beat out other belt drive turntables I owned, including a nicely-upgraded Linn LP12 with Ittok LVII arm.
I’m now looking to pass it on to another loving home.
Other than the cartridge, I am not interested in breaking up the package (selling the arm alone, etc.
) - the ideal buyer for this will be someone who appreciates a complete, restored vinyl rig with a synergistically paired arm and NOS spare parts to keep it running for decades to come.
Asking price is $3295 (offers considered, but please be reasonable), and I can of course set up a demo/listening sessions for serious buyers.
Thanks!
