NEMT (Non-Emergency Medical Transportation) Driver – San Benito, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, and Monterey Counties.
Founded by a Doctor and a First Responder, Call the Car, is currently seeking NEMT (Non-Emergency Medical Transportation) Drivers to join our team of exceptionally skilled and committed non-medical emergency transportation specialists.
Since 2010, Call the Car has been dedicated to improving access to healthcare.
AGE REQUIREMENT: Please note that our company insurance policy requires our drivers to be 23 years of age or older.
COVID VACCINATION REQUIREMENT: Must be fully vaccinated as a term and condition of employment.
Proof of COVID-19 vaccination will be required upon date of hire.
Job Description: The NEMT Driver is responsible for operating "Call the Car" (CTC) vehicles to provide safe, punctual, and courteous transportation services for our members.
This role includes communicating with and aiding members while also performing additional duties as needed.
The position entails physical demands, as NEMT drivers are required to lift and convey patients who may have restricted mobility or medical issues.
Employing proper body mechanics and lifting techniques is imperative to minimize the risk of injury.
Typical working conditions: The typical working conditions of an NEMT wheelchair drivers must demonstrate proficiency in vehicle operation and be ready for extended periods of sitting.
Additionally, they need to have the physical capacity to frequently stand, kneel, bend, lift, squat, as well as assist patients by pulling and pushing.
Adaptability to various weather and road conditions is crucial, along with a readiness to work during evenings, holidays, and weekends.
A substantial portion of their working hours are spent inside specialized vehicles like ambulances or medical transport vans.
Job Responsibilities: Provides safe and timely transportation for our members to and from medical facilities and/or home in a timely manner.
Ability to load and unload a member on a wheelchair safely into and out of a wheelchair vehicle.
Works as a solo driver to safely transport members and bariatric members.
Demonstrates patience, empathy, and compassion for member needs and conveys a willingness to assist, as needed.
Performs “Door to Door” service, with ambulatory and wheelchair service.
Utilizes CTC mobile devices to determine the most efficient route, locate hospitals, medical facilities, and the member home addresses.
At the start of shift, reviews schedule for accuracy, special requirements, and timely pickup and notifies dispatch and leadership if adjustments are recommended to complete the transport without issue.
Completes assigned schedule daily which may include additional unplanned trips or special request.
Accurately updates the status for all transport in real time through our technology or by phone when necessary.
Uses company provided vehicles, devices, and reviews/responds to company emails each day while abiding by company safety policies.
Ensures assigned vehicles are clean, free of damage, maintained, and in good working condition.
Communicates defects to leadership immediately.
Sanitizes and cleans vehicles by using the authorized company cleaning supplies and tools.
Completes daily vehicle inspections and checklists at the beginning and at the end of each shift.
Maintains clear communication between Members, Dispatch, Appointment Facilities, Dialysis Centers, and CTC Management.
Communicates vehicle incidents and accidents when they are immediately discovered and/or occur to leadership.
Acts with integrity and respect towards all coworkers, supervisors, vendors, members, and other third parties not associated with our service but encountered while on shift and providing services for the company (other drivers on the roads, pedestrians, etc.
).
Adapts to changes in the work environment, changes to schedules, traffic delays, unexpected events, road conditions, weather conditions, and always follows company safety practices.
Uses time efficiently and completes work in a timely manner.
Complies with expectations of our contracts and all applicable Federal, State, and Local Regulatory standards for driving and vehicle safety.
Observes and reports to leadership safety concerns of other healthcare drivers employed by the company or other healthcare transportation companies.
Ability to present oneself as well as the company in a professional manner.
Adhere to CTC’s policies/procedures (training provided), including complying with HIPAA and FWA regulations.
Uses ADP Payroll System Mobile Application to track work hours, approve paid time, and request time off.
Any other duties as assigned by management.
Requirements: Competent verbal and written English skills.
Must possess a valid Class C California driver’s license or higher.
Must pass a Criminal Background Screening and Sex Offender Registry Search at time of hire and annually thereafter.
Must pass government exclusion listings at time of hire and monthly thereafter.
Must pass a driver history check at time of hire and continuously during employment.
Must pass and maintain valid certification for CPR/AED/First Aid and other required training programs during employment.
Must pass drug and/or alcohol screen at time of hire and randomly thereafter.
Must pass a standard vehicle road test in our company vehicle at time of hire.
Must pass a medical examination which includes a review of medical history by a licensed medical professional and demonstration of ability to lift, push, and pull.
Must be fully vaccinated as a term and condition of employment.
Proof of COVID-19 vaccination will be required upon date of hire.
Must pass insurance driver standards at the time of hire and be able to maintain insurable status throughout employment.
Drivers shall not have a combination of 3 infractions that would disqualify insurability and no more than one at fault wheelchair incident.
Must pass additional screenings as mandated per government regulatory agencies which include but are not limited to Live Scan fingerprint national background checks.
(LADOT, SDMTS, Riverside, and any regulatory agency that is required to operate in a specific assigned region).
Experience using navigation software on mobile devices such as Google Maps, Waze, Maps, etc.
Availability to work hours ranging from 12:00 AM to 12:00 PM Weekdays, Weekends, & Holidays.
Ability to remain in a seated position for extended periods.
Ability to stand, kneel, bend lift, push, and/pull members frequently.
