Shift: PM (12pm-8:30pm)
Heritage Court Assisted Living, a Generations Healthcare facility is searching for a Mental Health Aide.
The primary purpose of this job position is to oversee clients’ adherence to the program guidelines, provide supervision and direct care as needed.
Responsibilities:
• Supervise, record, and assist, as necessary, activities of daily living (ADLs) such as teeth brushing,
bed making, dressing, toileting, showering, etc.
• Encourage and ensure residents are informed of and attend planned activities and groups.
Escort residents timely to groups and record participation ensuring that groups maintain a 1:6
ratio.
• Lead/assist groups and activities.
• Lead mental health discussions and community meeting daily, as assigned.
• Ensure and assist clients to complete forms properly and timely.
• Ensure residents attend mealtimes in the dining room or have tray service if temporarily unable
to leave room for meals.
• Encourage residents to maintain their rooms neat, clean, orderly and in good repair and assist as
needed.
Notify housekeeping or maintenance if room needs additional cleaning or
maintenance.
• Observe residents and report any changes in condition (physical and/or mental/behavioral) to
the Wellness Coordinator, Program Director and/or family/responsible party if after hours, as
needed.
• Report any occurrences to the next shift and document in the communications log.
• Perform safety checks on residents on a regular basis as designated in the service plan.
• Prepare and assist with administration of resident’s prescribed medications as directed by the
Wellness Coordinator.
• Accurately and timely chart/document all medications administered in the medication log.
Chart/document any changes in resident's health condition or their mental status
• Understand and follow safety and sanitation rules and properly reports any violations to
Wellness Coordinator.
Skills and Abilities:
• Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
• Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such
action.
• Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors,
government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
• Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to
handle difficult residents.
• Must not pose a direct threat to the health and/or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
• Ability to pass/clear criminal background clearance as required by Community Care
Licensing/Department of Social Services.
• Ability to cope with the daily mental and emotional stress of the position.
• Ability to function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and work effectively with
residents, employees, and support agencies.
• Ability to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and, at times,
hostile residents/clients within the facility.
Education and Experience:
• Be at least 18 years of age.
• 1 year of experience in a role of providing care to the elderly or within a behavioral health
setting, preferred.
• Must have high school diploma or GED
