*Essential Duties and Responsibilities*
The Museum Manager is a strategic and operational collaborator.
They will own the process of museum programming which includes daily activities, birthdays, classes, camps, and operations with guidance and input from the Executive Director.
*Managerial* * Act as Manager on Duty (MOD) ensuring a safe and high-quality visitor experience * Supervise Museum Floor Team and ensure they are carrying out their duties and our museum mission and act as liaison between staff and Executive Director * Practice open and direct communication with staff and Board of Directors (BOD) * Provide training to new and existing Museum Floor staff members on topics relevant to maintaining safety, cleanliness, and meeting our mission including but not limited to cleaning, organization, customer service best practices, early childhood education research and best practices, and art education goals and outcomes, cultural equity and inclusion expectations * Create, publish, and respond to inquiries and changes to the museum floor team staffing schedule * Foster a team environment and culture that attracts, retains, develops, and motivates a high-quality, professional team * Document observations, questions, and wonderings on the Museum exhibit floor and work collaboratively with the Executive Director to address them * Participate in interviewing, hiring, and training staff to ensure a consistently high level of visitor satisfaction * Manage the planning and coordination of Museum buy-outs, birthday parties, field trips, camps, classes, and events.
* Develops SMART goals for self and staff, and motivates team to help achieve these goals.
*Operational* * Research, find competitive pricing, and manage all logistical planning for incoming shipments, museum vendors, rentals, and exhibit needs * Communicate and respond to incoming museum inquiries in a timely, professional, and courteous manner * Oversees proper cleanliness, sanitation, and care of Museum facilities through maintaining regular cleaning schedules.
* Handles emergencies such as biohazards, fires, accidents and breaches of security or house rules promptly and in person.
Emphasizes prevention through training, inspection and preventive enforcement.
Ensures all appropriate follow-up procedures are followed.
*Programmatic* * Facilitate meaningful interactions with other local organizations and the surrounding community including but not limited to local school districts, community partners, teaching artists, nonprofit organizations, and corporate partners * Develop a high-quality educational programming curriculum that aligns with all abilities and cultural equity and inclusion goals of the Museum for daily programming, camps, and classes.
* Represent the museum to the community at large and within the museum and education fields as needed.
* Participate in monthly financial review with Executive Director and contribute to strategies to increase funding * Oversees daily accounting for museum sales and transmittal of daily summary sales reports and daily cash receipts.
* Follows the approved budget, monitors the quality of the Museum’s products * and services, and ensures maximum guest satisfaction.
*Museum Floor Coverage* * Orient guests to the Museum, answer questions, and provide general Museum information and information regarding programs and events * Process admissions and collect sales * Comply with all exhibit policies and procedures * Establish and maintain an environment that provokes creative thinking and behavior amongst our visitors; encourages a mood in the Museum that is playful, spontaneous and fun which focuses on exploration and experimentation * Facilitate individual creative play experiences and collaborations in the exhibits, and in Museum programming for children and adults by interacting with them * Facilitate activities and assist with birthday parties * Ensure that all public spaces are safe and clean, including removing unsafe objects and broken props from exhibits * Execute opening and closing procedures * Your responsibilities will also include such other duties as may be assigned to you by the Executive Director *Education and Experience* - Previous experience working with children is required - Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask effectively - Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal - Knowledge of collection management principles and cataloging techniques - Ability to engage in public speaking engagements confidently - Minimum High School equivalent plus relevant job experience of at least 3 years, _*or*_ * Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Development, Education, Business Administration or Museum Exhibition Management preferred plus 1-2 years of comparable work experience.
* Must have a valid California Driver’s License * Must be able to lift and carry heavy objects up and down stairs, stand, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, and hear.

* The employee frequently is required to walk and/or stand for extended periods of time * This is a full-time, on-site role with some weekend work required.
