About this position The associate teacher supports other teaching staff by implementing curriculum and facilitating enriching classroom experiences while ensuring a safe and caring environment for the enrolled children.
This role is responsible for following agency policies, providing supervision for enrolled children, and maintaining a quality program.
What you’ll be doing Planning and implementing a preschool program based on the HighScope curriculum; Planning and implementing school-age activities; Supervising and interacting with children in a positive manner; Developing and maintaining learning centers that reflect the interests and needs of the children enrolled in the program; Providing a wide variety of experiences for children with an emphasis on active learning; Providing a well-supervised, safe environment; Using sensitivity and good judgment when interacting with children, parents, and staff; Reading and implementing agency and program policies and procedures; Encouraging language development and respect for language diversity in the classroom and community; Accomplishing other duties as assigned to create and maintain a quality preschool program; Working cooperatively to create and maintain a quality school-age program; Working effectively with other team members; Actively participating in in-service training; Collaborating with the site director/teacher in the planning, supervision, and implementation of the overall program; Planning and implementing parent meetings and activities, including family nights; Providing a clean and sanitary facility (inside and out) on a daily basis according to the agency’s center-based cleaning checklist; Supervising assistant teachers in the classroom; Recruiting, training, and supervising parents and other volunteers; Promoting full enrollment and participating in the recruitment of children as directed; Accurately completing all assigned paperwork and documentation on a timely basis according to agency policies and procedures; Assisting the site director and teacher as needed; Performing other duties as required.
What you bring to the table A minimum of 18 months of experience working with children; Twelve semester units acceptable to licensing in child development, with a passing grade of “C” or better; Ability to correctly and effectively communicate in written and oral English; Child Development Associate Teacher Permit or CDA credential or associate’s degree or bachelor’s degree in early childhood education is preferred (may be required as determined by site assignment to open or close); Current certification in pediatric CPR (annually) and pediatric first aid (annually) and preventative health that is acceptable to Community Care Licensing (Health and Safety code 1596.
866) is preferred (may be required as determined by site assignment to open or close); California Driver’s License, daily use of an automobile, and automobile liability insurance is preferred; Proficiency in Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin or Vietnamese is preferred.
