Become a Senior Accountant at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow.
This position is in the Regulatory Accounting & Analysis (RA&A) division within the Controller's Department of SCE's Finance Organizational Unit.
The successful candidate will be responsible for accounting for regulatory balancing and memo accounts, accounting for Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) Formula Rate revenue requirements, Customer revenue accounting and reporting, accounting for Catalina fuel activities and other operating revenue accounting and reporting.
You will regularly collaborate with SCE's CPUC and FERC Regulatory Affairs, Operational Finance, Treasurers and Tax Departments to assess the appropriate regulatory accounting recovery mechanism.
The responsibilities will also include preparing for monthly journal entries, analyzing and monitoring balance sheet fluctuations, performing monthly budget to actual and comparative variance analysis, providing support for financial statement footnote disclosures; performing account reconciliations including identifying, investigating, and resolving invalid items and preparing correcting journal entries, and preparing internal and external reports to support audits, data analysis, regulatory filings/data requests.
In addition, the Senior Accountant will recommend and implement process improvements to drive efficiencies in the organization and present conclusions to senior management, as well as planning, executing, troubleshooting, and refining business processes across groups.
A day in the life - Get ready to think big, work smart and shine bright! Interpret and apply GAAP and regulatory decisions in preparing transactions, documenting accounting policies, as well as providing accounting guidance to various operating units and assessing impact to the financial statements.
Prepare month-end accounting of accruals, prepaid expense amortization, fixed assets, employee benefit plans, executive compensation, inter-company journal entries, and other business-related activities such as fuel and purchased power transactions for financial and regulatory purposes.
Perform monthly variance analysis including identifying key drivers, working closely with partners, highlighting trends, and analyzing causes of unexpected variances.
Complete data and transaction processing analysis involving work order and billings for accurate disposition, including validating integrity of charges, and resolving issues.
Perform critical account reconciliations such as customer account balances in the customer service system to energy receivables on the general ledger, which includes researching, analyzing, and resolving receivable related issues between the sub-ledger and general ledger.
Assess revenue contract originations and amendments under US GAAP to determine appropriate accounting treatment under ASC 606.
Support SCE's financial reporting disclosure (10-Q/10-K) and MD&A requirements.
Prepare quarterly and annual SEC, FERC, and CPUC reports related to regulatory assets, liabilities, and electric revenue transactions.
Coordinate and/or support accounting to implement CPUC General Rate Case (GRC) decision.
Support recorded cost information for annual FERC and CPUC regulatory proceedings.
Qualifications The Essentials Five or more years of experience in Accounting or related field.
Experience with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
Experience performing account reconciliations and variance analysis.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with large amounts of data.
The Preferred Bachelor's Degree or higher in Accounting, Finance or related field.
Certified Public Accountant (active or inactive).
Experience in a public accounting firm and/or regulated utility.
Experience complying with SOX controls.
Proficiency with SAP or similar enterprise software.
Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate accounting issues and business processes to peers, clients, management and other organizations.
Ability to work in a team setting and work across functions and departments in analyzing information developing information and solutions.
You should know This position's work mode is hybrid.
The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days.
Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to reside in the state of California.
