In this job, you’ll work across different areas of our team supporting actionable strategies and opportunities for EIX and its companies, focusing on advancing growth & innovation initiatives, corporate/business development efforts, understanding of disruptive technologies and strategic planning activities.
The Growth & Innovation (G&I) team within the EIX Strategy and Corporate Development group identifies, incubates, and invests in businesses or ideas that can generate innovation insights, enable our core business, and lead to new revenue growth for the company.
The energy & cleantech space is facing a rapid rate of change, and the G&I team will identify opportunities for growth and mitigate risks created because of this change.
The G&I team has a strong external-facing presence, as well as close connectivity with our EIX businesses, including SCE (our electric utility) and Edison Energy (our energy services advisory firm).
This position plays a key role in advancing strategic objectives with responsibility for conducting quantitative and qualitative analyses focused on growth & innovation opportunities, including (but not limited to) scanning the ecosystem of early-stage cleantech companies; exploration of new ideas and business models; monitoring/research of industry trends in the power & utilities sector; tracking of clean infrastructure markets such as renewables and energy storage; and development of business strategies and scenarios.
More broadly, you will help shape Edison’s overall strategy, using analytical, problem-solving, critical thinking and creativity skills to help the team.
In this role, you will use influencing skills by presenting for senior management, including members of the C-suite and leadership at EIX, SCE and Edison Energy.

Core parts of the job include: Investigation of new areas of opportunities Idea generation: Feed pipeline of new business ideas to inform opportunities for EIX; Apply critical thinking, hypothesis formulation, problem-solving skills and data-driven approaches to understand business concepts from new technologies or startups and link the value proposition of opportunities with Edison’s strategy Investigation of potential opportunities: Talk to startups, accelerators, incubators, research organizations and other innovation thought leaders to have a direct pulse of the leading edge of innovation in our industry and to source venture investment opportunities; screen, evaluate and develop venture investment pipeline Thematic deep-dives/innovation sprints: Conduct industry and market trends analysis, competitive landscape assessment, value chain mapping and identification of key players in strategic domains (e.
g.
, electric mobility, grid of the future, digital solutions, etc.
) to get insights on innovation trends, changing customer segments, new business models, disruptive technologies and ecosystem of early-stage companies Innovation thought leadership and insight-sharing Innovation thought leadership: Engage with external innovators to advance our perspectives and work with Edison’s business units to identify new areas of growth and opportunities for implementation of new technologies, business models and approaches for our business Internal collaboration: Collaborate with key technology, strategy and innovation groups to understand the key technology needs and pain points across Edison, reflect external insights we gather from the market, and work together to develop new solutions Insight sharing: Communicate and discuss findings on innovation trends, themes, and scenarios with executives and innovation leaders of EIX and its subsidiaries Strategic projects and internal consulting Support critical initiatives, scoping special projects, engaging cross-functional teams, analyzing key issues, performing financial analysis, and identifying potential solutions and recommendations Support commercial diligence and quantitative analysis (e.

, market models, valuation, forecasts, project finance, etc.
) as needed to help assess venture investment opportunities Qualifications Qualifications you need … Three or more years of combined experience in corporate innovation/strategy/development roles (e.
g.
, developing and implementing business strategies such as launching new products or implementing large scale companywide initiatives, business plan evaluation, startup incubators/accelerators, corporate venture investing, mergers & acquisitions), commercial or entrepreneurship roles (e.
g.
, startups), venture capital, strategy/management consulting, or investment banking Other details that will set you up for success … Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, finance, engineering, or a related field and/or equivalent combination of education and experience Being comfortable in an unstructured work environment and able to cut through uncertainty to proactively move ideas forward.
Experience communicating complex analyses and information to senior management.
Experience, knowledge and/or a strong curiosity in energy, e-mobility, and clean technologies.
Strong team orientation, ability to collaborate with teams in order to accomplish individual goals You should know … This position’s work mode is hybrid.
The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days.
Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to reside in the state of California.
