Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm; Exempt position.

Position Summary:
Reconcile general ledger and sub-ledger to ensure accurate records.
Reconciling the company’s bank statements; fixing assets and maintaining depreciation schedule; maintaining financial reporting, loan amortization, and investment reconciliation.
Essential Functions:
Prepares journal entries for distribution to the general ledger.
Responsible for various subsidiary ledgers as required (i.
e.
, fixed Assets/Depreciation, payroll posting, inventories, and accounts receivables.
Reconcile Bank statements and investment accounts
Reconcile fixed asset and depreciation schedules.
Generate and distribute monthly financial reports and review divisions and stakeholders.
Assists in the reconciliation of the balance sheet.
Assist with various month-end closing journal entries, such as grants receivable/revenue, ensure the accuracy of journal entries, and submit journal entries to the accounting manager for timely review.
Assist with financial and compliance audits.
Assist with the Annual budget process.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
General knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Office methods and procedures; statistical and mathematical presentation of data.
Advanced proficiency with current word processing and spreadsheet software programs, query tools, integrated financial systems, and/or other types of records management systems.
Ability to interpret and follow instructions and policy guidelines.
Analyze financial and statistical data and draw conclusions.
Utilize problem-solving techniques.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Communicate effectively with others inside and outside the unit, including conveying technical information to non-accountants.
Education and Experience
Equivalent to a bachelor's degree with a major in accounting or a closely related field OR a combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or a related field.
3 to 5 years of previous general accounting or business experience.
An understanding of general accounting concepts, such as debits, credits, accruals, and refunds.
A courteous, professional demeanor and excellent customer service skills.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Experience with account reconciliations (i.
e.
, bank and balance sheet accounts).
Experience with month-end and year-end close processes.
Experience in POS systems and accounting software (preferably PeopleSoft).
The accountant must demonstrate an interest or ability in working in a multicultural/multiethnic environment.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the UAS.
